Architect John O'Hara (Mark Shannon) purchases an island (Cat Island) from Mr. Wilson an agent from the owning government. That evening Mr. Wilson is attacked and killed while trying to perform a ritual. In the morning Larry (George Eastman) a charter boat owner believes he has killed a man in the water near his boat. The police who cart the body assure Larry that the man was already dead. When the police deliver the body to the morgue they warn the doctor performing the autopsy that zombies can come back to life. The disbelieving Doctor is killed while trying to perform the autopsy. O'Hara hires Larry to take him to Cat Island. Larry sails O'Hara and Fiona (Dirce Funari), a woman O'Hara met at the hotel, to the Island. Larry informs them that the island is uninhabited because they were all killed by an earthquake followed by an epidemic. Larry also informs them that legend has it that a cat leads zombies on the island. After landing on the uninhabited island they find and old man and his granddaughter (Laura Gemser). Because Larry treats the old man with respect he is given a charm which will protect him. O'Hara, Larry and Fiona learn the truth about the island.
